🌿 Middle Phase Information
Welcome to the Middle Phase of your child’s learning journey!
This phase is designed for learners between the ages of 10 and 13 and we use an adapted DCAPS curriculum to support their growth—academically, emotionally, socially and practically.
🎯 What is our aim?
Our goal in the Middle Phase is to nurture independence, build confidence and prepare learners for real-world responsibilities. We focus on helping each learner reach their potential in a way that respects their unique pace and abilities.
🧠Key Focus Areas
In the Middle Phase, your child will learn:
Personal independence in areas like self-care and hygiene
The ability to adapt to classroom routines and follow rules
Emotional self-regulation and respectful peer interaction
Social etiquette and kindness, including taking turns and being charitable
A growing acceptance of authority and responsibility
Confidence in completing tasks to the best of their ability
Practical life skills like making toast, tea or coffee, sweeping and washing dishes
Each child works at their own pace, guided by an individualised support programme tailored to their needs.
A Day in the Middle Phase
In the Middle Phase, there are no examinations or tests. Learners progress according to their age rather than academic achievement. A formal progress report is shared twice a year—in June and December.
The school day offers a rich mix of learning experiences that support holistic development. This includes:
Scholastic skills: Mathematics, Language and Writing
Life skills: Self-care, social interaction and environmental awareness
Perceptual development: Fine and gross motor skills, and visual discrimination
Creative activities: Art and music, allowing for expression and enjoyment
Learning is practical, meaningful and hands-on, with plenty of opportunity for exploration and guided learning.

🏠Homework Approach
No formal homework is given in the Middle Phase. However, it is important that learners continue practising everyday skills at home. Families are encouraged to support their child’s independence by allowing them to dress and undress themselves, bathe independently and brush their teeth regularly.
When your child is ready for more formal academic tasks, such as reading and learning sounds, the teacher will let you know how to support this at home—always in a way that is encouraging and never pressurised. Every learner follows an individualised support plan designed to meet their specific needs and learning level.

🤝 Working Together
We are grateful for your continued support as we work together to raise confident, capable learners. At this stage, your child should be developing a sense of responsibility and the ability to do more independently. Please continue to encourage this at home—it plays a vital role in their self-esteem and overall development.
As always, we ask parents to reinforce moral values, discipline and ethics at home. These form a key part of the values we teach at school and are essential in helping children grow into respectful and responsible individuals. It's also important that all learners follow the school’s code of conduct.
If you have any questions or would like to discuss your child’s progress, please feel free to contact the teacher or the school.
