Welcome to the ASD Wing at Merryvale, where every learner is understood, supported and celebrated.

A Day in the ASD Wing
The daily structure in the ASD Wing is predictable, visual, and learner-centred, helping to reduce anxiety and encourage participation. Our staff work patiently and creatively to ensure learners feel calm and capable.
Daily activities may include:
• Visual schedules and routine charts
• Communication exercises using alternative methods (Makaton, picture cards, etc.)
• Emotional regulation support
• Social interaction, modelling and guided peer engagement
• Academic activities using the adapted D-CAPS curriculum
• Movement and sensory breaks in the sensory room
• Life skills such as hygiene, turn-taking and personal responsibility
All tasks are designed to be achievable and meaningful, allowing learners to feel successful in what they do.

🤝 Working Together
We believe that success in the ASD Wing is built on strong partnerships with families. When routines, communication tools, and behavioural approaches are supported at home, learners gain consistency that makes a real difference. We encourage open communication and regular check-ins between staff and families.
As with all Merryvale learners, we ask that parents support the values of respect, structure, discipline and empathy at home and help reinforce the school’s code of conduct, where applicable.
Please reach out to the ASD Wing team or your child’s teacher —we are here to support your child’s journey, every step of the way.
